The IPAFFS system became effective on January 1, 2022, and is a system in which registration is mandatory to import food, plants, live animals and livestock products. IPAFFS notifications must be made 4 to 24 hours (depending on the port) before the goods are scheduled to arrive at the border. The declaration generates a reference number needed when submitting an import declaration to a customs agent. The 7-digit declaration number is a prerequisite for completing the customs declaration.

In order to register with the IPAFFS system, you will need to first register with Defra, where access to the IPAFFS Service will be unlocked.
